Build up an Appetite on the Beach

As an island, Taiwan has a great coastline, full of lovely sandy beaches with the rolling surf of the South China Sea creating white-topped waves perfect for splashing in. The golden sand is also good for another type of exercise – sex.

Some years ago a friend of mine spent a year working in Taiwan, and during this year she achieved two great heights. She had sex on a beach, and after that experience she and her partner went to a restaurant where she had such a lovely meal that she reproduced it later for a cookery contest and won first prize.

A Review of The Old Bridge Hotel beats The Riverside in Hengchun

A recent review of The Old Bridge Hotel in Looe compared the property to a hotel in Hengchun Taiwan called The Riverside. On the surface of things, this seems quite an odd thing to do. Yet delve deeper into the review and it becomes clear why the comparison was made.

The Old Bridge Hotel in Looe is situated on the west side of the River Looe in Cornwall. The Riverside Hotel in Hengchun is near the river running through Hengchun, but is not directly situated next to it. It would seem the review of the two may be in error since the only thing the two hotels appear to have in common is a river and a name. Yet the similarities go deeper.

Places to visit in Taiwan

Taiwan is one of those places that are so easy to enjoy, but so hard forgetting. It is such a magical country with so many unique flavours. Being one of the most popular holiday destinations of the Brits, mostly because it is cheap and exotic, Taiwan deserves to be appreciated more. Simply because it is one of those countries where the west come in order to find peace, but where the locals live in horrible conditions and have so many problems that it is hard to discuss them all. That’s why I will focus briefly on some of the positive sides of this heavenly place.

Aliens in Taiwan

If aliens do ever visit the planet, the last place you would expect them to land would be in the USA. Any species intelligent enough to have interstellar travel would also be intelligent enough not to land in a country where half the population still have trouble accepting a black president. It is far more likely that visitors from another world would choose a location that isn’t as young in its opinions as America.

Warm relations means better tourism for Shilin

Since the election of Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou in 2008 tourism in Taiwan has been growing and growing. A BBC news report on the admittance of the first independent tourists from China allowed into Taiwan shows just how much the relations have warmed between the Island and its mainland forebear. Now is a good time to go to Taiwan and check out its culture and people.

Getting internet on your mobile overseas has traditionally been a problem in the east, but since the warming of relations between China and Taiwan, industry had grown and the mobile phone market has become productive and reliable. Even if you can’t get a good deal before you decide to visit, once you’re there you will be able to find a local dealership who can offer you some good pay as you go offers. Failing that, take a look online before you go.

There is a lot to see and do on this gem of an island but if you do nothing else you must visit the Shilin Night Market in Taipei. Bursting with edible treats galore you’ll be lucky if you make it to the clothes section where you can pick up the latest designer gear for a quarter of the price it costs in the west. Made in Taiwan, used to be a running joke but you soon realise that the joke has been at our expense when you browse through this market. Further in you can find games of chance and lots of locals willing to gently take your money off you, but they won’t rip you off.

If you only have one night in Taiwan, spend it in the market.

Bangkok is one such destination in Thailand that is popular throughout the world for providing excellent shopping experiences to its visitors.

The wholesale markets, weekday markets and weekend markets are some features that define the shopping scene in Bangkok. And if your heart truly permits, you can also visit one of the markets that sell counterfeit products. Bangkok is notorious for producing exact replicas of high class products.

Malls: Mah Boon Krong (MBK), Emporium, Siam Paragon, Centralworld are among the most famous malls in Bangkok. Shoes, bags, belts, electronic products, jewellery, home décor products, clothing – there isn’t a thing that you will not find at these places. Cut the red tape

Cut the red tape

You may think that going on holiday is a fairly easy task these days. Book your cheap flight online and figure out How to get aroung roaming charges. Also pack your passport and toothbrush and you’re on your way. Some parts of the world are a little trickier than others though, and you need to do a bit more work, preparation and form filling to get there. As it is technically part of China, I always thought that Taiwan would be one of those places, but I couldn’t have been more wrong!
I went on holiday to China a few years ago, and they made me fill in so many forms, answer so many questions (often the same ones over and over again) and jump through so many ridiculous hoops that when the opportunity to go to Taiwan came along, I almost turned it down, as I was anticipating the same kind of problems. I’m really glad I did some research first and found out how easy it is for both UK and US citizens to visit this beautiful country as I would have missed out on the holiday of a lifetime for nothing.
US citizens who are visiting Taiwan on holiday are allowed to spend 30 days in the country without needing a visa. For UK citizens, it’s even longer – an impressive 90 days, and that also covers people who are studying or doing business there. I guess it’s because of our past colonial link with the territory that British people are still welcomed with open arms. I still find it a bit odd that it’s easier to get into somewhere that is essentially part of the notoriously secret and suspicious China than it is for me to visit our supposed friends and allies, America. Now there’s a country that likes it’s paperwork!
